The European Language Seal 2019 was awarded to the Irish Speak with Me and GaelGoer project. According to recent reports on Irish, one of the reasons why Irish speakers do not recognize each other easily is because they do not easily identify each other.

We tested this hypothesis with a trial run in ten shops in Dublin where Irish speakers worked. During the trial, employees wore an identification tag labelled 'Speak Irish with Me'. They kept a record of the number of customers they spoke Irish with over the two weeks. The result was that one person spoke with seven Irish speakers every day.

Irish speakers are now everywhere. The project team decided to develop an app to provide a way for Irish speakers to communicate with each other. They conducted a survey on Survey Monkey to find out the interest of Irish speakers in such an app and what they would like the app to provide for them. Responses came from Irish speakers worldwide, and the result was 'Onward with the App'. Additionally, we received many useful suggestions on what could be done with the app.
